Eagles vs. Packers Preview: Line and point spread

Week 4 of NFL football will open on Thursday with the Philadelphia Eagles traveling to the Lambeau to face the Green Bay Packers and here we will take a look at the latest betting odds and point spread on the game.

Thursday Night Football promises to be a good one this week, with the struggling Eagles going to Wisconsin to try and get a second W this season, in what many pundits are calling a “must win” game for Philly. The Eagles showed a complete lack of cohesion last week against the Lions: O-line giving up half way through the play, seven dropped passes, one of them for a game-winning touchdown, spotty defense, the troubles at Philadelphia seem countless.

Meanwhile the Packers are sitting pretty atop the NFC North with a perfect record out of the first three games this season, with no signs of slowing down. But, competition in this division is surprisingly robust this season, so Green Bay will look to secure as many wins as possible in games outside the division, especially against weaker opponents like the Eagles.

Which is why we were surprised to see the betting numbers posted by the sportsbooks this week on the Thursday Night Football game. We will begin with the more generous line and spread posted at Bovada Sports. Here the Packers are naturally he favorite with a -225 odds to win and the line on the Eagles will pay at +185. The Eagles vs. Packers point spread at Bovada is at just -5 points chalk the Packers. But the even bigger surprise is the point spread we see at the Bookmaker sportsbook. Initially, Green Bay were only -4.5 against the spread, but during the writing of this preview, the point spread moved to the stingy -4 points chalk the Packers. Bettors are banking on the Packers’ offense not doing it’s job, but we highly doubt that this game would be as contested as the spread and betting numbers suggest. At Bookmaker the line on the Eagles right now is +176, while the line on the Packers has dropped to -210. The two sportsbooks are in agreement on the total, however, both posting 46 points over/under.
